Victorian Mop Fair

Blists Hill Victorian Town

What job would you have done in the Victorian era? This early May bank holiday we're holding a traditional Mop Fair at Blists Hill Victorian Town so you can find out!

Mop Fairs were a long-standing tradition, events where workers would be matched with potential employers based on their skillset.

Throughout the weekend there will be:

  • Hands-on blacksmithing, printing and candle-dipping experiences
  • Opportunities to make a brick, rag-wreath or traditional clay pipe
  • Stone masonry, bodging and wash house demonstrations

You can also join the midday parade where the Mayor of Blists Hill will wish the Shroppies, or Shropshire Pit Girls, well as they leave for London during the fruit and vegetable season.

Please note, the exact nature of the hands-on activities are subject to change.

Free event. No pre-booking necessary. Standard entry to Blists Hill Victorian Town required.

PASS PLUS holders and Friends can park in our IGMT car park for free when attending this event by validating their PASS PLUS at the front desk when they arrive.
