Festival of Archaeology
For one day only entry to Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron will be free as it hosts a special day-long event as part of the national Festival of Archaeology.
This event is sponsored by The Association for Industrial Archaeology (AiA) and is part of a UK-wide festival organised by the Council for British Archaeology.
Alongside a series of talks, walks and tours, local historical and archaeological societies and groups will be on site at the museum talking to the public about their work. These include:
- Association For Industrial Archaeology (AIA)
- Friends of Ironbridge Gorge Museums
- Broseley Local History Society
- The Caughley Society
- Friends of the Red Church
- Shrewsbury & Newport Canals Trust
- Newport History Society
- Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society (TACS)
- The Historical Metallurgical Society
- The National Trust
- Ironbridge Coracle Trust
- Shropshire Caving and Mining Club
- Ironbridge Sentinel Locomotive Project Volunteers
- Holy Trinity Church, Coalbrookdale
The Association for Industrial Archaeology (AIA) will also host a mini archaeological dig where visitors will be able to sift through spoils left over from recent work at Broseley Pipeworks, funded by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, to level out the floor.
PASS PLUS holders and Friends can park in our IGMT car park for free when attending this event by validating their PASS PLUS at the front desk when they arrive.
