West Midlands Museum Development

The Museum Development team works with museums to help them develop, thrive and collaborate to ensure their future sustainability through cross cultural programmes which excite and inspire audiences.

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust manages the Museum Development programme across the West Midlands region, on behalf of Arts Council England.

Delivered by a team of Museum Development Officers (MDO’s) the programme works to support Accredited museums and those seeking Accreditation, helping to:

  • Build learning through peer to peer networks
  • Strengthen partnerships and develop collaborative projects
  • Share skills and knowledge
  • Develop an entrepreneurial approach and find creative solutions to problems
  • Nurture entrepreneurial ways of working
  • Support and develop excellence in the long term care of collections
  • Build diverse audiences using physical and digital means
  • Improve visitor experience, taking an innovative approach
