Welcome Back

Several of the Museums are now open and visitors have flocked back to see us over the summer months. As you might expect, visiting will be a different experience to previously but we know you will still have a great time.

As of 31 October 2020 Telford & Wrekin, our local authority area, moved to the High COVID Alert Level (Tier 2). Whilst we remain open this does mean that you should

  • continue to apply the rule of six in any outdoor settings around the museum sites
  • only enter indoor spaces, including front of house, retail, catering outlets and enclosed exhibits in single household or support bubble groups
  • continue to observe all other safety measures including wearing face coverings when required and observe social distancing rules

The following museums are now open: Blists Hill Victorian Town, Jackfield Tile Museum, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, the Furnace Kitchen, Museum of The Gorge & The Iron Bridge Tollhouse.

  • Blists Hill Victorian Town is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. You will need to book a timed admission slot to visit, even if you already have an Annual Pass
  • Jackfield Tile Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. There's no need to book a timed admission slot here. There will be a one-way system around the Museum
  • Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm. There's no need to book a timed admission slot here. There will be a one-way system around the Museum
  • The Furnace Kitchen is open Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday 9am-4pm, Friday 9am-8pm and Sunday 10am-3pm. Open for eat-in & takeaway hot & cold drinks, brunch, lunch, savoury snacks and cakes & bakes
  • Museum of The Gorge is open Monday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. This is our Information Hub and there's no admission charge. There's no access to the exhibition here
  • The Iron Bridge Tollhouse is open Monday to Sunday, 10am-5pm. The shop is open whilst the exhibition is closed

The timed admission slots for Blists Hill Victorian Town are hourly from 10am-2pm. You can arrive at any time during the hour slot you book and you can stay for as long as you wish.

What have you done to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19?

We have made a number of changes and improvements to how we operate to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. This includes:

  • reducing the amount of touch points on site
  • introducing one ways systems on site where required
  • an enhanced cleaning regime throughout the museums
  • where appropriate staff will wear PPE such as face masks or gloves
  • signage has been updated to remind visitors and staff to wash their hands
  • hygiene screens have been added to counters and at till points
  • new hand sanitiser points have been installed around the museums
  • social distancing markers are in place
  • pre-booking has been introduced with hourly timed admission windows to limit on-site capacity
  • contactless payments are encouraged
  • access to indoor spaces has been assessed and we have adjusted entry to some exhibits
  • all of our staff have been trained in our new policies and protocols

We are following UK Government guidelines and may be amending these measures as and when the guidelines change.

Do I need to wear a facemask?

Face coverings are currently mandatory on public transport and in all shops and supermarkets.  From 8 August 2020 the places where you will have to wear a face covering will be expanded to include museums & galleries. Whilst our social distancing measures remain robust across all our sites, we ask all visitors to wear a face covering whilst in any of our retail, front of house areas and all internal museum and exhibit spaces. The wearing of face coverings in any of our outdoor museum spaces is not mandatory but down to individual choice.

What if I don’t feel well?

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all visitors and staff we respectfully ask you to remain at home if you, or any member of your party, is feeling unwell.  If we believe that you are displaying symptoms of COVID 19 on site we will require you to leave and return home.

Will the toilets be open?

Yes, all of our toilets will be open. We have introduced an enhanced cleaning regime and installed hand gel stations on entry and exit.

Are all of the old-fashioned buildings open at Blists Hill Victorian Town?

We’re striving to keep open as many of the indoor spaces as we can. The buildings that have two entrances will be open with a one-way system. Other buildings may be open for small family or social bubble groups to enter at a time, whilst observing social distancing, or ‘fishbowled’ so you can see inside from the pavement without entering.

Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

Yes please, we strongly recommend that you book online. Head to www.ironbridge.org.uk to buy tickets and pre-book your timed admission slot. By booking online you will have reduced the contact needed with our staff members. If this isn’t possible then there will be a limited supply of tickets that you can buy from Museum of The Gorge & The Iron Bridge Tollhouse in person - ideally using contactless payment.

I can’t book for the date I want to visit?

We’re releasing timed admission slots in date blocks, usually two weeks at a time. If the date you want to visit is a long way ahead we suggest you keep checking the booking diary. As there is limited capacity we may have sold out of popular slots such as weekends so you may need to be flexible with the dates you can visit.

Which museums are open and when?

Check out our up-to-date opening hours here.

I’ve already got an Annual Pass - what happens?

Thank you for bearing with us during this time. As you’ve not been able to visit us for a while we’re extending your Annual Pass validity for 4 months. You don’t need to do anything, just bring your ticket with you when you visit and staff will let you in - we won’t be re-issuing tickets. Remember, you will still need to pre-book a timed admission slot - you can’t visit without one.

I’ve got an online voucher for a ticket but haven’t redeemed it yet - what can I do?

Don’t worry, you can still use your voucher and we will add 4 months to the expiry date. You don’t need to do anything - just bring the voucher with you to collect your Annual Pass.

Can I use a discount, offer or voucher?

To make sure that we’re offering the best value for everyone at a time when some museums remain closed we’re currently discounting the price of our Annual Passes. As a consequence, as of June 2020, we’ve temporarily suspended accepting all discounts, offers, promotions and vouchers.

Exclusions - we will continue to offer discount for full-time students (with a valid ID card) and disabled visitors.

If you have a Travelzoo voucher we will accept those with an extended expiry date of 31 October 2020.

If you bought a Tesco Clubcard voucher before 23 March 2020 please present it on arrival. However, as our ticket price is now reduced your voucher may have a higher value than needed. We can’t give change so will keep the overpayment as a donation. If you’d rather return your voucher to Tesco Clubard in exchange for a different offer, then please contact them directly to arrange this.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, we love dogs at Blists Hill Victorian Town! Don’t forget your poo bags to clean up any messes. You will find water bowls around the Town for doggie drinks. Assistance Dogs only are welcomed at all other museums.  Dogs must be kept on leads at all times.

Where can I eat?

At Blists Hill Victorian Town our cafes and restaurant will be open for eat-in and takeaway hot & cold food & drinks, cakes and light bites. The Fried Fish Dealer will be open for our famous Fish & Chips, cooked in beef-dripping.

At Coalbrookdale The Furnace Kitchen is open for eat-in & takeaway drinks, brunch, lunch, cakes & bakes and savoury snacks.

Will I be able to buy anything from your shops?

Yes, at Blists Hill Victorian Town we’ve created a Victorian market where you can safely browse a selection of traditional goods. Some exhibits will also be selling souvenirs and gifts as normal. The exit Gift Shops at Blists Hill Victorian Town, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and Museum of The Gorge will all be open. We strongly recommend contactless payment.

Do I pay for parking?

There is a small parking charge in museum-owned car parks. Tariffs are displayed in all car parks. Some are cash-only machines. Income generate from car parking helps us to carry out our twin charitable aims of education and heritage conservation.

Can I talk to someone about my visit?

At the moment the majority of our team are on furloughed leave with only essential colleagues on site. We suggest you email us at contactus@ironbridge.org.uk and someone will come back to you as soon as possible. You might also like to check out our social channels for further information.  Add details of social channels

What happens if I book a time slot and then I am unable to attend?

If you’re unable to come along at the time you’ve booked please email us at tickets@ironbridge.org.uk and we can reallocate the space to someone else. Remember, if you want to come on a different date you will need to rebook a space.

What is the maximum size party I can bring?

Our local area moved in to Tier 2 restrictions on 31 October meaning that you can't socialise with anyone outside your household or support bubble in any indoor setting.

The existing 'Rule of Six' still applies to outdoor spaces.

COVID-19 secure venues, such as the museum can still host larger numbers in total. However groups of up to 6 must not mix or form larger groups.

When will your other museums be opening?

We will consider opening other museum sites later this year and we will keep our current arrangements under constant review and in line with Government guidance. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

If I book a timeslot do i need a ticket as well?

Yes, our timed admission slots don't include admission, they're just to help us manage capacity. If you don't already have an Annual Pass you'll need to pay for admission before you visit.
