Costume Project

The Costume Project specialises in recreating eighteenth and nineteenth century costume; based on original patterns and historic sources helping to bring this area of social history to life.

The team has been producing bespoke costumes for museums and heritage organisations since 2004, specialising in the eighteen and nineteenth centuries. We have lots of creative flair and pride ourselves on our attention to detail, producing costume based on original patterns and historic sources.

We work closely with clients to meet their individual requirements and offer three levels of interpretation:

  • Reproduction
Costume for display - a faithful copy of the original.
  • Reconstruction
Costume to handle and wear - a copy, retaining the look and function of the original costume but graded to modern sizes, using robust materials.
  • Re-invention
Costume to handle and wear - using historic costume as the inspiration to create a modern interpretation that explores key functions of the original designs.

Past clients have included, the Fashion Museum in Bath, Powys Castle, Ulster Museums, National Museum of Scotland.

Whether you require costumes for staff to wear, visitors to try on or for school group activities, we would be delighted to work with you to create beautiful pieces for your organisation.
