The Museum has a highly experienced archaeology department that specialises in post mediaeval and industrial archaeology.
Ironbridge Archaeology conducts fieldwork and research within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site on behalf of the Museum and also takes on external contracts.
Services include:

- Community outreach
- Heritage management advice
- Landscape characterisation studies
- Conservation Area appraisals and conservation plans
Volunteers
The museum runs an active Archaeology Volunteer Group. This has attracted a number of keen amateur and young archaeologists from the local area and beyond who help with the Museum's non-commercial work, including research, stores and archiving, fieldwork, and community archaeology events.
Lectures
The Ironbridge Archaeology Lecture Series is held bi-monthly in the Museum of The Gorge in Ironbridge, TF8 7NH and please see the Events, Workshops & Activities page for the lecture dates. Doors open at 6pm, with the lecture beginning at 6.30pm. A Q&A session with the speaker is at 7.45pm.
There is no charge, but a suggested donation of £2. This will help to fund the Ironbridge Archaeology Lecture Series.
