COVID-19

Coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization.

It is acknowledged that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact.

The spread of COVID-19 has required The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, cognisant of their duty of care, to respond quickly to a rapidly changing risk environment. What might have been considered sufficient steps in the early days (provision of hand sanitisers; training in relation to virus transmission) has moved rapidly, and Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust has kept abreast of government advice and has interpreted and applied that advice very carefully, having regard to the particular characteristics of the Museum environment, visitors and the workforce.

It is the Museums belief that the risk of infection and Government advice is widely understood.

As the rules around the lockdown are relaxed and Museums start to reopen the UK government and health agencies strongly recommend:

  • Defining the number of Visitors that can reasonably follow the 2m social distancing rules
  • Limiting the number of Visitors in the Museum, overall and managing congestion areas
  • Encouraging Visitor to use hand sanitiser or handwashing facilities as they enter the premises
  • Encouraging Visitors to avoid handling products whilst browsing, if at all possible
  • Suspending or reducing customer services that cannot be undertaken without contravening social distancing guidelines
  • Reminding Visitor who are accompanied by children that they are responsible for supervising them at all times and must follow social distancing guidelines
  • Queue management and  one-way flow, where possible
  • Ensuring any changes to entries, exit and queue management take into account reasonable adjustments for those who need them, including disabled visitors
  • Using outside premises for queuing where available and safe
  • Managing outside queues to ensure they do not cause a risk to individuals for example by introducing queuing systems, using barriers and having staff direct Visitors
  • Having clearly designated positions from which colleagues can provide advice or assistance to Visitors whilst maintaining social distance
  • Continuing to keep customer restaurants and cafes closed until further notice, apart from when offering hot or cold food to be consumed off the premises

The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust Ltd has put in place preventative measures to minimise the spread of COVID-19, however, as with all social activities visiting the Museum could increase your risk and your dependent(s) risk of contracting COVID-19 and therefore despite our best efforts we cannot guarantee that you or your dependent(s) will not become exposed to COVID-19.

Details of how the Trust is responding to the COVID-19 virus is published on the Museum’s website and the Museum advises all visitors to carefully read and fully understand the guidance before visiting a Museum site.  For the safety and comfort of all, visitors who are not complying with Museum guidelines will be asked to leave the Museum site immediately and will not be entitled to a refund or recompense.

By visiting The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, you acknowledge that you understand the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 which may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of others, including, but not limited to, employees, visitors, volunteers, and program participants and their dependents.

In relation to COVID-19 you agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, death, illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense), of any kind, that you or your dependent(s) may experience or incur in connection with your visit to the Museum.
