The Ironbridge London Lecture

Sir Terry Morgan CBE, Chairman of Crossrail

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations marking the founding of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust,  will be giving a lecture looking at the construction of the epic £14.8 billion Crossrail project under London.

This fascinating and insightful Golden Jubilee lecture, entitled ‘Crossrail - an industrial revolution in infrastructure’, will be held at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in London’s Westminster on Monday evening, 6th November.

It will examine how Britain has triggered a new industrial revolution in infrastructure and why investment in people and skills is critical to this great new era in engineering.

The Ironbridge Gorge is internationally recognised as the birthplace of the original Industrial Revolution some 300 years ago. This was kick started by Abraham Darby I who perfected the technique of smelting iron with coke, rather than charcoal, in 1709. This innovative process enabled the first commercial production of industrial grade iron, which changed the world forever.

Sir Terry Morgan took over the role of Chairman of Crossrail on 1st June 2009. Prior to this, he was Chief Executive of Tube Lines, a public-private partnership contracted to maintain and upgrade the infrastructure of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. Other positions included Group Managing Director, Operations, BAE Systems.  He has an MSc in Engineering Production & Management, is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is a past President of the CMI (Chartered Management Institute).

Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm ahead of the lecture, which starts at 7pm. It will be followed by a question and answer session at 7.45pm.

Attandance is mainly by invitation only, however a limited number of places are available to book by clicking here.
