'The Town that Never Was' - Steampunk Festival

Blists Hill Victorian Town

Steampunks and their friends are invited to Blists Hill Victorian Town over the weekend of 22 & 23 June for our popular Steampunk Festival.

A neo-Victorian scientific fantasy, steampunk is all about mixing the old and new. It re-imagines today’s technology powered by 19th century steam, combined with lots of good humour, fun, games and elaborate fashions inspired by Victorian and Edwardian costumes, reinvented for the 21st century and beyond.

This year’s theme is an amazing spectacle of an apocalyptical Martian invasion of earth and the fight back to ultimate victory.

The Ministry of Steampunk (MoS) will be transforming Blists Hill for one weekend only into a magical, mysterious world of Martian invasion and ultimate human triumph all with the accompanying Steampunk sights and sounds. The whole site will be utilised from the top of the High Street right into the woods at the bottom of the site. The story will be played out by MoS enthusiasts and visitors can dip in and out as much or as little as they like.

  • The Ministry of Steampunk Wizards ‘Wizarding School’ offering a timetable of family friendly ‘magical’ classes and activities
  • Mystical and magical trails for all the family
  • Discover more about the origins of Steampunk from experts during specialist talks
  • Sign up for the Martian Expeditionary Force (MEF) in the Estate Office Recruiting Head Quarters
  • Belly Fusion Dance Collective performances in the Ironworks and around the Town
  • Scarlet Butterly and her amazing daytime and evening performances
  • Steampunk Souvenirs to collect
  • Market stalls of the weird and wonderful, courtesy of specially selected artisan traders

Daytime admission is 10am - 8pm on Saturday 22 June & 10am - 4.30pm on Sunday 23 June.

Evening Event - saturday 22 June, 7pm-11pm **evening event is now sold out**

Join us on Saturday evening for a Steampunk themed performances with headliners ‘White Hot Pipes’ (with flaming bagpipes!), Scarlet Butterly and her spectacular night time performance of dance and fire and supporting act Ant Etherton brings further music to the stage.

All this plus the chance to parade around Blists Hill Victorian Town in your favourite Steampunk outfit and explore the historic buildings, shops and cottages and chat to the wonderful townsfolk all dressed in Victorian costume and talking about life at the turn of the last century.

Whilst the townsfolk close their doors at 4.30pm, and we say good-bye to our day guests, those with evening event tickets are welcome to stay on site. The Fairground will remain open until 7.30pm and the Forest Glen Refreshment Pavilion will be serving hot food.

Annual Passport Tickets are valid for daytime admission only.

Please note, the Incline Lift is out of order - disabled access to the lower town is via Gate 7. Please ask staff at the entrance for details.

Whoops! We got the date wrong for this event in our leaflet! It's not happening on 29 & 30 June.
