Garden Photography Workshop

Blists Hill Victorian Town

This event is now fully subscribed and there are no tickets available.

A day of expert advice on how to photograph gardens with Philip Smith, founder of the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition and exhibition. A garden in midsummer is a wondrous sight and one of the most popular times for garden visiting. In many ways we are spoilt for choice of subjects, but how often is it that the resulting images fail to capture the essential spirit and character of the garden?

This workshop will help you to feel that elusive essence of a garden in your photography and provide you with tips and tricks to help you develop your skills.

Expert garden photographer Philip Smith will start the day with an introductory talk. Topics covered will include

  • composition
  • light
  • macro close-ups
  • the ‘language of lenses’
  • metering and exposure
  • preparation and planning

We will also touch on post capture processing. Following the talk you will be free to explore Blists Hill Victorian Town, making your own images with Philip on hand to give help, support and expert guidance.

Tickets must be booked in advance by clicking below and are £65 per person. Sorry, there are no tickets left for this event now.

You will need to bring:

  • your normal camera setup, along with any bits you perhaps rarely use, including a tripod
  • remember to fully charge your batteries (and bring your camera’s manual if you are struggling with its controls)
  • dress appropriately for the outdoors and bring gardening kneelers if you have them

Participants will receive a complementary food and drinks voucher to use at Blists Hill Victorian Town. The session runs from 10am until 4pm.
