Role Outlines and Applications

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust has two main roles available for volunteers: Costumed Townsfolk at Blists Hill Victorian Town, and Museum Guides - both listed below along with full downloadable descriptions. There is huge flexibility within each role, together with the chance to try other roles. We are also offering Family Volunteering in 2016*, starting with costumed roles at Blists Hill. Otherwise, all our roles are suitable for any age from 16 years old.

These are the current roles at the Museum – but remember these do change from time to time, so please check back for updates if your ideal role is not listed right now. Alternatively, please feel free to drop in to the Volunteer Centre at Blists Hill to discuss your potential dream role – we can be flexible and are always open to new ideas!

Additionally, we have specialist projects taking place at different times throughout the year, including maintenance, gardening projects, archaeology projects and event stewarding. There are also some (limited) behind-the-scenes Curatorial roles available – so please ask if you would prefer something like this that’s not Visitor-facing.

If you would like to apply to be a Volunteer at Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, please fill in an application form and email it to, or print it out and return it to:

Once we have received your completed form we will invite you to attend an informal interview at the Volunteer Centre (which is at Blists Hill Victorian Town). Here we will go through our opportunities and start to get to know you, as well as talk about your skills and experience. This makes it easier to find you a role that suits you best. If the interview goes well, we’ll invite you back for an Induction a week or so later, and then you’ll be ready to start your role!

*Please call or email if you are interested in the Family Volunteering role.
