Apr. 26 - May. 31, 2013 : ‘Stream’ – An exhibition by Luce Choules

Maps have an important place in our lives – we use them here at the Museum for all sorts of reasons: to show people how to get from one site to another, to illustrate archaeological excavations and to plot relationships between objects, structures and other locations.

Visitors to Jackfield Tile Museum will be able to enjoy an exhibition of work created by Artist in Residence, Luce Choules, helped by a team of Museum Volunteers and local families. Luce, an international artist, produces maps that are very different from the regular Ordnance Survey variety. Her work is all based around extensive field surveys of landscapes where she collects photographs and objects and notes down her thoughts and feelings as she encounters different places and spaces. This material is then put together to form a very distinctive map that allows the user to feel their way through a landscape.

During her residency she will also be producing work that responds to the Museum’s geology collections which have been undergoing some significant cataloguing and conservation work of late.

The free exhibition is open daily from 10am until 5pm in the Footprint Gallery, Fusion at Jackfield Tile Museum.

You can find out more about the project at http://travelnotion.wordpress.com/ and find out more about Luce Choules at http://guidetohere.com.

This project is being funded by Arts Council England.
