Enjoy an evening on the home front as Blists Hill Victorian Town is transformed to the 1940s. Come dressed in 1940s outfits and experience the food and entertainment of the day.
Join us for our early-summer evening event at Blists Hill Victorian Town. We’re travelling four decades into the ‘future’ with an evening of World War II entertainment, music and activities.
You’re invited to come dressed in period costume from the Shropshire Home Front and help us raise morale. Everyone will be given a ration of kali but there’s no need to fear, the rationing ends there at Blitz Hill – delicious fish & chips from the Fried Fish Dealers and beer in the New Inn Public House will be freely available to buy during the evening.
The blackout’s been lifted for one night only and you’ll be able to enjoy red-hot iron being poured in the Foundry along with vintage vehicles and steam engines and 1940s music. This is your chance to try a Spam fritter, find out how people made the most of food rationing and meet some characters from wartime including the ARP Warden and the WRVS leader. You’ll even be able to join the Home Guard for their drill!
The evening will close with a concert in the impressive Ironworks. The grand finale will be in the style of the hugely popular BBC Worker’s Playtime Shows which toured factories and workplaces boosting the spirit and camaraderie of the nation.
Tickets in advance only from Ironbridge Visitor Information Centre & Blists Hill Victorian Town entrance. Tickets will not be available on the gate and Annual Passport Tickets are not valid for this evening. Dogs will not be allowed. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
