Learning activites at Ironbridge

Using the information below and carefully planning your visit will make it as worthwhile and enjoyable as possible.

Organisation

  • Select appropriate museum sites for purpose of visit.
  • Decide on visit date(s) with alternatives in case your first choice is not available.
  • Contact the education department to provisionally book site visits.
  • Contact individual sites to book workshops/ lunchroom.
  • Book transport (and accommodation if necessary).
  • Complete booking form and return to confirm the details of your visit.
  • Check insurance cover.
  • We strongly recommend you Pre-visit your chosen museum sites. (Contact the Education Department for a free preliminary visit pass)
  • Complete a risk assessment form.
  • Prepare your adult helpers before the visit.

Check

  • Adult to pupil ratio. The Museum Health and Safety Policy requires a ratio of at least 1:8. This should be higher for younger pupils, at least 1:4. Responsibility for the behaviour of visiting groups remains with the school and cannot be passed to the Museum or its staff.
  • Access for students with special needs.
  • Your class has suitable clothing and comfortable footwear. Blists Hill Victorian Town is largely an outdoor site.
  • Maximum number allowed on sites or in individual exhibits.

Plan

  • Appropriate on site activities if not doing a facilitated workshop.
  • Where to eat lunch if no room is available.
