This photograph shows a group of burnishers at the Coalport China Works in 1906. Burnishers worked a six day week, from 8am to 5pm. Young girls started as apprentice burnishers at the age of 13 or 14. Mrs Gallear recalled that when she began work as an apprentice burnisher in 1905 at the age of 14, she earned half a crown a week.
