Glaze dippers at work at the Coalport China Works

Next » « Previous

This photograph shows five women at work dipping china into the liquid glaze. Glaze dippers ran the risk of lead poisoning, often known as ‘potter’s rot’, from lead used in the glaze solution. The women in this photograph are wearing protective clothing and using ventilation hoods to reduce the health risks associated with glaze dipping.
