W Godwin plastic clay encaustic tile, stylized fish within an oval set diagonally on the tile, quarter circles/flower heads in opposite corners. 6" square, c1850. This was a popular theme for church tiles, the fish is an early Christian symbol. The back of this tile has the full arms of the City of Hereford, a device used by Godwins on some of their earliest tiles
