Coalport is now known for producing figurines, and the tradition stems back to the 1800s when figures decorated the floral encrusted Coalbrookdale ware and parian figurines and busts were made. In the 1880s several white figurines such as this extremely rare chimpanzee were made, although it was not until the 1920s that character figurines as we know them today were produced.
