Steam boat on the Clyde near Dumbarton

A view of Henry Bell’s ‘Comet’, at work on the Clyde. As with most other early steam boats, Comet had a short life. Launched on 24 July 1812 the boat was wrecked beyond repair in December 1820 on a journey between Glasgow and Fort William.
