Probable effect of the projected railroad to Brighton

Britain has been a class-conscious society for many years. In the 1820s, the Prince Regent had made Brighton a fashionable retreat for the idle rich, away from the capital and its increasing squalor. This cartoon was a comment for those who were aware how popular travelling along the Liverpool and Manchester Railway had become in 1830, and feared the same might happen if a railway was opened between London and Brighton.
