Built to the designs of David Mocatta (1806-1882) and engineered by John Urpeth Rastrick (1780-1856), this curving, 366m (1,200ft) long viaduct with 26 arches, was built between 1845 and 46 to carry the Brighton and Hastings Branch of the London & Brighton Railway out of Brighton.
