Ironbridge Gorge Museum Launches Unique Training for Young Entrepreneurs
22 July 2010

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Launches
Unique Training for Young Entrepreneurs

The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust Limited has launched a unique training programme called ADVANCE. The training is aimed at young (18-25) entrepreneurs to build practical skills for business and creativity. The initiative is one of the first of its kind in the UK.

Whatever the nature of participant’s new idea or business venture, the skills they will learn will give them a significant competitive advantage.

Project Manager, Anna Brennand said “ADVANCE is an exciting new concept providing a modular, intensive and interactive experience for young people with a good idea for a business or a creative product or service. ADVANCE is a unique, pioneering programme that has been developed by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust Limited and funded by Renaissance West Midlands in order to encourage the Creative Industries in the county.

“Ironbridge is the natural location to develop such a training programme, as Abraham Darby is world famous for not only starting the Industrial Revolution, but also for being one of the most creative entrepreneurs in history.

“ADVANCE will dramatically improve young entrepreneur’s ability to get a business idea off the ground, with the use of creative thinking and understanding the importance of networks and relationships. It will also improve their confidence, motivation and communication skills.”

Venu Dhupa, the designer and director of ADVANCE went on to say “The modules are delivered by industry experts and include: practical work, group work, self-reflection, lectures, discussion, one to one meetings, presentations, examination of scenarios and case studies.

“During ADVANCE participants will receive assistance to create their own business plans and/or ask questions about existing ventures. At the end of the programme there will be a chance to share ideas in a “safe environment” and to win prizes. The best ideas will be given a further opportunity to gain investment to make the ideas ready for public exhibition.”

The programme will start at Ironbridge in September. To request more information contact Venu Dhupa at venusbc@btinternet.com
