Digging Up History in Telford Town Park
Follow up Session at Enginuity, Coalbrookdale: Thursday 8th July
After the hugely successful excavations in Telford Town Park in April, the archaeology team is now turning its attention to the finds which were recovered from the site with a follow up session on Thursday, 8th July. The excavations took place at Double Row in Hinkshay, built in the early 1800s for workers at the nearby ironworks, and demolished in the 1970s.
The day will enable people who worked on the dig to follow through the findings from the excavation, including cleaning and analysis of artefacts and looking at old documents and maps, said Paul Belford, Head of Archaeology and Monuments at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
The event will take place on Thursday 8th July at the Enginuity Design and technology centre, Coalbrookdale, one of the ten award-winning Ironbridge Gorge Museums. It will be followed by an exhibition in Enginuity, and at the Telford and Wrekin CultureFest.
The archaeology programme is part of the Parks for People Project, which has been funded by a Parks for People Development Grant a joint initiative between the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery, and Telford & Wrekin Council. The archaeology is being led by Paul Belford of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, and has involved community groups and members of the public.
