Summer Fun at Ironbridge
6 July 2010

Summer Fun at Ironbridge

This school summer holiday there is so much to do at the Ironbridge Gorge Museums a single visit simply won’t be enough!

Coalport CHINA MUSEUM
26 July – 03 September (Mon – Fri)
At Coalport China Museum you can help create a unique ‘installation’ remembering the Victorian workforce of 1901. Using moulds and your own creativity you can make an individual clay relief plaque featuring one of the Coalport China Works’ 250 employees, during drop-in workshops Monday-Friday from 26th July to 3rd September.

Using the 1901 census, which details the name, age and specific job of the 250 people working at Coalport as inspiration, visitors will select a character and then create a relief plaque of the individual, using a variety of moulds. All the plaques will be assembled at the museum to make a stunning installation and by the end of the summer the Museum hopes to have represented every man, woman, girl and boy who worked at Coalport in 1901 with a remarkable clay plaque. The workshops will be held 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Enginuity
01 – 31 August (Mon – Sun)
Meanwhile, over at Enginuity we’re looking at Egyptians! What do sailing boats, glass, paper, honey and the 365-day calendar all have in common? They were all discovered by the ingenious Egyptians. For the month of August the Enginuity team will be celebrating the amazing science and technology of the Egyptians in a hands-on, fun packed extravaganza. Come and make your own pewter amulet, build a pyramid, design and test a sailing boat, learn about hieroglyphs to decode our Pharaoh trail and take part in our interactive Ingenious Egyptian show. Shows and a range of hands-on activities will run daily between 10.30am and 4.00pm – breaking for lunch. There will be an additional charge for some of the activities.

Jackfield TILE MUSEUM
27 July – 27 August (Tues – Fri)
If you’re feeling creative then head to Jackfield Tile Museum for a drop-in tile decorating session. You’ll learn the tile decorating technique known as ‘tube lining’ or ‘slip-trailing’, and by the end of the experience you will have produced a 6 x 6 inch tile featuring your own design and choice of colours. The price is £7 per tile plus admission; activities vary on a daily basis and additional charges may apply. The workshops will run Tuesdays to Fridays only from 27 July until 27 August.

Blists Hill VICTORIAN TOWN
31 July – 30 August (Sat & Sun)
Blists Hill Victorian Town will be hosting a series of themed weekends over the summer holidays. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland weekend kicks off the programme on 31 July & 01 August. On 06 & 07 August we welcome Soldiers of The Queen for a military themed event. The Detective Weekend follows on 14 & 15 August with Treasure Island Weekend closing the series over the August Bank Holiday Weekend – 28-30 August.
